Description
This stingray ring is made of 925 Sterling Silver and Larimar. The design resembles the stingrays found in Punta Descartes that are being studied by Equipo Tora Carey.
Punta Descartes has an enormous diversity of ray species, with more than 24 species identified so far. The most abundant species belong to the Urotrygonidae family, which are commonly known as round stingrays.
They are small and dwell in rocky and sandy bottoms close to shore, where they feed on invertebrates and therein become key species for coastal ecosystems. Stingrays don’t sting to attack but use their sting to defend themselves from depredators, often confusing them with bathers who step on them.
They are indicators of healthy beaches, so make sure to appreciate them next time you see one! With the purchase of this necklace, you can directly contribute to the continuous monitoring of our local ray populations and become part of the discovery of new information on these species
By purchasing the stingray ring, you support the marine conservation efforts carried out in Punta Descartes by Equipo Tora Carey. If you ever want to visit the site and learn more about the project, make sure to contact us or Equipo Tora Carey and schedule your visit, where you can help with the ray monitoring project, environmental education or sea turtle monitoring as well, and overall, help us protect what we love!
